An Evening with Andrea Elliott

therabbitholebrigg

We were incredibly honoured on Monday, 30th May to host double Pulitzer Prize winner, Andrea Elliott right here in Brigg.

Having recently won her second Pulitzer Prize, this time in the General Non-Fiction category for Invisible Child, the book Andrea is in the UK to promote, and it was a huge deal for The Rabbit Hole to attract her to North Lincolnshire for an event for the short time she is in the country.

To read a book is one thing, but to understand the methods and motivations behind a book adds further depth and connection to the words. And this is one powerful read. Non fiction that reads as a novel, Andrea was motivated to write this book as a journalist for the New York Times looking for a way to to effectively communicate the issue of child poverty in the USA.

She found herself drawn to a then eleven year old Dasani Coates, a vibrant child full of energy and imagination. And it is the story of Dasani and her family that Invisible Child follows over a decade charting their struggle amongst a system set against them. But despite the sadness, this is also a story of hope, love and joy too. Dasani leaps from the pages, bright and full of life bringing light and laughter to the darkness.

Thank you so much to Andrea for her visit, and to Najma Finlay, Publicity Director at Hutchinson Heinemann for her belief in us, and for hosting the conversation with Andrea on the night.

We have limited signed stock of Invisible Child available to buy in store, or online (UK Postage is available at an extra cost) at £16.99. Head to our online shop to order your copy.
